Karchanawong, S. 2007

Karchanawong, S. & Chantawang, C. (2007) Gas and leachate generation from solid waste landfill lysimeters, filled with flushed and aerobically composted waste. ISWA conference, Amsterdam, NL 24-27 September 2007
The paper reports concerns over the extent of landfill gas and leachate generation in landfill sites in Thailand, where landfill is the principal form of waste disposal. MSW was treated aerobically prior to being sealed in lysimeters under anaerobic conditions, watered according to typical rainfall conditions in of the region over a period of four months and analysed for methane and leachate generation. In comparison with untreated waste subjected to the same conditions, aerobic pre-treatment reduced both methane generation and leachate.
